Núria Guiu

Open call, 2019

I am a ballerina graduated in classical dance from Barcelona Theatre Institute, a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and a student on the Degree in Anthropology and Human Evolution at the UOC Open University. As a dancer, I was part of IT Dance and later worked with companies such as Cullberg Ballet, Gisele Vienne, Carte Blanche Dance Company, Batsheva Dance Company (Kamuyot), Ingri Fiksdal, Jasmin Vardimon, La Veronal, Kobalt Works and Manuel Rodriguez. Since 2012, I have been interested in choreography and I have created my own dance pieces: La Muda, which premiered at the Oslo Opera, and Portal, which premiered at the Oktoberdans Festival in Bergen. My last solo piece, Likes, was chosen by the European platform Aerowaves 2018 and presented at festivals such as Fira de Tàrrega, Festival Batard, and Taiwan Dance Festival, among others. As an art assistant, I worked for four years with the choreographer Arco Renz on projects developed in Asian countries such as Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Korea. I also an assisted on the new creation by Gisele Vienne, Crowd. I was already a resident at Graner in 2012, at La Caldera in 2016, an associate artist for the Sala Hiroshima in Barcelona, and in Cra’p, Mollet del Vallès.

A brief description  about the project in residencie – 2019:

This is a stage project that investigates the iconographic research of physical practices that have shaped modern postural yoga from a hybrid standpoint since its origins to the present day. In the visual and anthropological research, personal / autobiographical imagery are infiltrated and amalgamated, creating a choreographic scenario where documentary and personal data come together to enable us to explore issues related to reality, fiction, image, power, gender, sexuality, spirituality, identity, digitization, etc.
