El Graner also runs a task of spreading contemporary creation, starting with the processes of our artists-in-residence and expanding it from a more theoretical and documentary point of view. This is why we keep collaborating with the Barcelona Library Network through the creation of a bibliographic collection specialized in movement arts and contemporary art in general, located at the Francesc Candel Library in the La Marina – Zona Franca neighborhood.
The library decided to benefit from el Graner’s know-how to start a focus on dance, which aims at bringing dance closer to the people. It includes all kinds of documents that deal with dance, and can be used both by experts and by newcomers, with the goal of facilitating the access to dance to all sensitivities and all levels of knowledge on the subject, to get to know the history of dance and its future projection.
The library also wants to become a documentary center for dance professionals: It includes books on choreographies, technique and practice of body expression and injury prevention, on stage arts management and documentary compilations of congresses on the present and future of dance. It also includes resources on some crucial figures of the history of dance, such as Isadora Duncan, Pina Bausch, Nacho Duato, Susan Au or Catherine Diverrès, and their reflections on this art, either on DVD or on books. The collection will expand year after year, with el Graner’s counseling for acquisitions.
