Jou Serra
I am a lighting designer and performing arts creator. I work in the fields of dance, the circus and the new dramatic arts. I am also a visual and lighting installation artist. I research and create around the role of light from a multidisciplinary standpoint (philosophical, scientific and artistic), with the emphasis on its repercussions on the new performativities. More recently, my research has focused on the connections between light, body and gender. I co-direct the contemporary circus company Animal Religion with Quim Girón and Joan Cot Ros, which channels our interest in putting body, sound and light at the heart of our research from the very start of our creations.

A meditation on the union between light and non-binary gender: delving into light as the key element of the staging, visual and conceptual creation process, the body as the subject matter and channel for communication, and gender as the essential union of what constitutes us as individuals. A space in which to contemplate and examine in-depth the perception of the gaze and the sensitivity of the proposed images. What kind of rhythm does it offer us? How does a body landscape create light? What highlights who we are? It is also a study to find parameters to bring together the concepts of light and non-binary gender, to offer new links with creation and a look at the representation of light and its function in the performing arts, to foster a more horizontal vision of them.
