Maria Jurado: I am a choreographer, performer, and researcher. I move between the boundaries of conceptual dance and performance. Each work forces me to think differently, allowing me to delve into the possibilities of formats and thus maintain a living relationship with the piece and the context. Poetry, music, and cinema are disciplines that inspire and accompany me. During the creative process, I like to think from autofiction, immersing myself in the research, obsession, and neurosis that drive me to create the “perfect” conditions for the choreography to occur. I studied at the Institut del Teatre and after winning the Dance Prize in 2021, I was able to premiere the piece Black Sun at the Grec Festival 2022. A large-scale piece that brings together research on the concept of Melancholy. In my latest work Dancing with my abjection, I seek to detach myself from what is learned and begin to trace a non-academic path.
