Using the methodology developed by SLMFV, the goal of this workshop is create a practice and study space where the body is engaged in improvisation and composition directly related to different stage variables: movement, light, sound, and costume. Each stage improvisation lab focuses on the body’s relationship with one of these variables. The lab on October 22nd and 23rd at Graner will focus on the relationship between the body, light, and instant composition.
SLMFV’s stage improvisation labs serve as a space for research and experimentation of tools that, from our perspective, enrich and empower creators when facing real-time composition. We share our study of improvisation in dance: a practice to technically and multidirectionally develop the sense of stage presence. Stage presence refers to a state of availability and creative responsibility, physical potency, and interpretative risk. All these elements serve a collective creation and a fundamental interlocutor: the audience.
