The collective Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes (SLMFV) is wrapping up the academic year and entering the final phase of the creative process they have been undertaking with 3rd-grade students from Institut Escola Antaviana in the neighborhood of Roquetes.
After the Easter break, the group is facing the last sessions and key moments leading up to the presentation that will conclude several intense and enriching months for both the artists and the students. The air is filled with anticipation and excitement. Everyone has accumulated a wealth of experiences, which will contribute to the construction and composition of their work. In recent weeks, they had the opportunity to carry out a technical residency at Graner. There, they played and experimented with spotlights and control boards for lights and sound, learning to manipulate these elements to create the desired atmosphere for their presentation. This experience has allowed them to better understand how technical aspects can enhance creative work. Additionally, they returned for the third time to the Mercat de les Flors theater. There, they enjoyed the energy of the show “Via Injabulo” by the South African company Via Kathelong. This direct contact with dance professionals provided them with a valuable source of inspiration and motivation.
Currently, they are diligently working in the Asphalt Room of the institute. There, they are refining and putting the finishing touches on the choreography they have created. Through duets, composition, and improvisation, they are shaping the piece they will present in the Pina Bausch Room at the Mercat de les Flors on May 16. Despite all they have achieved so far, there is still much work to be done. There is very little time left, but they are determined to make the most of it. Every day, they learn something new, whether it’s a dance technique, a form of expression, or the challenge of teamwork and perseverance. But beyond all the work and learning, what is truly at stake is the unique experience of stepping onto the stage and performing. It’s an opportunity to share with the audience everything they have learned and created. It’s a moment of celebration, but also of nervousness and excitement. As the presentation date approaches, tension mounts. But so does the excitement and anticipation. The students are eager to showcase their work, to share their art with the world. And while they know there is still much to be done, they are ready to face the challenge of sharing their work with an audience.
Both the group and the artists continue to discover new ways to express themselves and connect with others. And although the path is not always easy, they are willing to continue forward, to keep creating, to keep dancing. Next stop, the stage of the Pina Bausch Room at the Mercat de les Flors!
EN RESiDENCIA is a program of the Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Barcelona Education Consortium, devised in cooperation with the A Bao A Qu association, which brings creators to work throughout an academic year in the classroom. This work, which concludes with the presentation of a piece, in this case linked to dance and movement, intensely and significantly brings together creation, education, and mediation
