Project Z is Graner’s line of work focused on the community of emerging artists in Barcelona who work around dance and live arts. It aims to be a meeting space for the city’s new creators to share concerns, desires, and practices, and to explore a common territory of mutual care.
In the 2024 edition, we want to lay the foundations for this collective space to be sustainable and lasting over time. To achieve this, we revisit some of the questions that arose from the 2023 group: How do we describe the idea of collectivity? Is sharing process methodologies a political way of creating? Can we collectivize knowledge to recognize the city’s cultural system together? Is it possible to find new alternative ways of doing things? How do we imagine/choreograph futures together?
Along these lines, we propose 4 sessions to reflect on new models of collectivity and technologies of mutual support that open a real possibility for project autonomy. If, beyond the 4 planned sessions, the group decides to continue meeting and working, Graner will provide the necessary space and support. The sessions will be conceived and led by Carolina Campos and Sara Manubens.
Carolina Campos and Sara Manubens will share exercises and tools from their artistic practices around the body, visuality, and text. Their proposals will serve as triggers for the group to come together around their work and reflect on the possibility of a common plan among the participants. The artists will facilitate reflection on the aforementioned questions in a gradually decreasing presence until the last meeting day.
Sara Manubens – Artist, choreographer, and travesti in Barcelona. Her work moves between site-specific art, performance, and dance, focusing on trans-corporeality and its impact on reality. She approaches travesti practice and identity from an experimental, choreographic, and critical standpoint. She has been developing her own creative processes since 2015.
Carolina Campos – Involved in various creation and research circuits, her practices are positioned between performance, writing, pedagogy, and curating. She is interested in methodological approaches that reflect collaboration in artistic creation. She works with dramaturgy and artistic accompaniment in the creation of dance pieces and in research contexts within the arts.
Who can participate?
We aim to form a group of 15 emerging artists who want to actively take part in this space for mutual support and encounter, sharing concerns and resources, and promoting collective care in the sector. We understand “emerging” not as a characteristic linked to age, but as a moment of artistic development and its relationship with visibility within the city’s cultural contexts.
