João Lima

After an initial training as an actor, I continued studying contemporary dance, attending the Research and Choreographic Creation Course at Fórum Dança and later the ESSAIS training program at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers. I have always been interested in combining practice with reflection; for this reason, I alternate between creation and pedagogy in my career. As a performer, I have collaborated with artists such as Cecilia Colacrai, AzkonaToloza, Marcela Levi & Lucía Russo, among others. As an instructor, I have taught courses across Latin America and Europe at institutions such as Institut del Teatre, Graner, Area Dansa, Aprendanza, Temps d’Art, Cruzada de Ação Social, Penitenciaria Femenina do Bom Pastor, among others. My pieces have been presented in venues such as the Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon), Festival 100 dessus-dessous (Paris), Teatre Sérgio Cardoso (Rio de Janeiro), Mostra Itaú Rumos Dança (São Paulo), Plataforma Lavardén (Rosario), Sala Hiroshima, Antic Teatre, Dansa Metropolitana, and Mercat dels Flors (Barcelona).

Residency project

Conspiración is a choreographic creation that explores the notion of community in today’s world. Through the formation of a chorus that activates not only the voice but also gesture, we build a collective body that inhabits the space between consensus and dissent, belonging and isolation, the verbal and the non-verbal. In the face of a competitive and individualistic world, this piece seeks the possibility of allowing ourselves to be enchanted through language.
