In 2023, Graner deepened its collaboration with Montjuïc Castle by launching a new creation support grant: Montjuïc Crea. The goal of this new program was to decentralize the creation processes in Barcelona and generate new professional opportunities for the artistic sector by promoting dialogue between local facilities in the Sants-Montjuïc district. The Castle and Graner continued to strengthen the relationship that had started years earlier, with a collaboration that allowed Montjuïc Castle to launch its program for artistic residencies in unconventional spaces in conversation with the projects in residence at Graner.
The first project of the Montjuïc Crea program supported an innovative research and creation proposal by the Urati Laboratori collective. Titled Relatos del cemento enfermo, the collective developed an itinerant and participatory installation that, from July to December 2023, was deployed with the aim of collecting and transmitting traces and testimonies of social struggles and experiences from the La Marina neighborhood.
The project had three phases and a financial support grant (€5,000):
- An open meeting with the public, especially with the residents of La Marina, where Urati shared their process and invited us to experience the installation (within the framework of Boombeta, July 2023).
- 2nd research phase at Montjuïc Castle and presentation within the Viu Montjuïc festival (October 7th and 8th, 2023).
- The final phase of the project involved the itinerancy of the artwork to different local venues in the La Marina neighborhood: the CC Casa del Rellotge and the Biblioteca Francesc Candel, from October to December 2023.
