The Graner Educatius program, within the framework of Caixa d’Eines, for the 2024-2025 school year, began with a transition in mediation, passing from Magdalena Garzón, who had developed the program since 2021, to Mireia de Querol. Mireia de Querol has been part of the team as an artist working in the classroom, developing her project at Escola Seat during the 2022/2023 school year with the 6th-grade group, and during the 2023/2024 school year with the 4th-grade group. Thus, the transition was organic, and both the artists and the teaching teams quickly embraced Mireia’s proposals and methodology. The Graner team has highlighted the importance of having a mediator profile with a strong background in artistic practice, classroom experience, and first-hand knowledge of project implementation.
Accordingly, throughout the first term of the school year, several transition and follow-up meetings have been held to ensure the project continues in an organic way with a smooth transition. For the 2024-2025 school year, it has been decided to work with the following schools, maintaining continuity with some and establishing new relationships with others. The artists have had the opportunity to meet the teachers who will accompany them during the year, as well as the teaching staff. These months have been a time of listening to align the classroom work with the school’s needs and establish a shared roadmap.
In primary education, Claudia Solwat has been working with the teacher Maria Mayor, has met the group with whom she will carry out “Your Body, Your Teacher” this year, and has conducted a session with the teaching staff to explain the project in a hybrid format of body practice and informational session. Additionally, in primary education, the collaboration with CEP Enric Granados has been resumed. This school had previously participated in the program during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years with the artist Nora Baylach. The new school year began with the necessary initial meetings to reestablish contact between the school and Graner, as well as with the artist now linked to the project, Emma Villavecchia, who will work with the 4th-grade group and their teacher Laura Cabrerizo. To familiarize the students with dance and performing arts, the first part of the school year was used to visit the Mercat de les Flors with primary school groups to watch “Copiar” by Animal Religion.
In secondary education, two ongoing projects with Joao Lima and Maria Ferrer are being developed. These projects strengthen the relationship between the artist, the school, and the program, promoting long-term learning and a deeper understanding of collaboration. Each project is conducted through a different elective subject with distinct thematic approaches, creating a dialogue between a teacher specializing in visual and plastic arts and an artist from the field of movement arts. This first term has been crucial for consolidating the relationship between the artists and the teachers. For example, at Institut Montjuïc, Anna Tomàs has joined the project from the school, while at Domènech i Montaner, the collaboration with Ada Vázquez continues.
Lastly, the first term has also been a time to design and curate a series of transmission sessions to be held in January 2025, which has already sold out. This cycle includes three sessions with three different professionals, aiming to offer a broad spectrum of perspectives and approaches to the intersection of artistic practice and pedagogy. The program will explore topics such as: the relationship between choreography and syntax with CondeGalí BL; the idea of working with the body as a resource that reflects who we are and what we hold with Laura Alcalà; and the exploration of the importance of voice and presence in teaching practices with Àngela Peris.
