This workshop proposed by Sandra Sotelo, a resident artist at Graner under the practical methodologies modality, is framed within her research on the links between political ecology and movement arts, specifically around the notion of ecosocial transitions. This is the core of her project Temporary Zone, where she connects her work as a researcher and creator, forming one of the main lines of her doctoral studies.
Many of the concepts found in political ecology, and particularly in the discourse of ecosocial transition, are also familiar to stage creators working with bodies and movement. During the sessions, materials from ecofeminist and posthumanist authors will be used to construct common meaning maps from a situated and critical perspective, enabling participants to find shared ground before opening up to the multiple languages and discursive forms characteristic of a transdisciplinary group.
Through conversations, movement practices, scenic, writing and observation devices, different dimensions of transitions will be explored, such as the notions of urgency, ruin, secure future, and radical need. The stage space will be incorporated as a place from which to generate critical thinking by unfolding perspectives and possibilities we had not previously considered. In this way, we will open up space towards the “unfinished configurations” that Donna Haraway speaks of, allowing us to design our own manifestos.
The laboratory is aimed at: Students, activists, and researchers interested in ecofeminisms, political ecology, and ecosocial transitions. Dancers, creators, and performing arts researchers, as well as dance and movement practitioners, who are interested in reflecting on current ecosocial processes.

I am Sandra Sotelo Reyes—researcher, activist, and dancer—and I see transdisciplinarity almost as a responsibility. I have also studied music, dance, economics, humanitarian action, and feminisms within a system that fragments knowledge, and I have just started a PhD in feminist political ecology and performing arts—partly as a form of rebellion against that system. For twenty years, I have worked in different countries in East and Central Africa, where I have learned from other ecologies and worldviews, navigating all the contradictions they bring. In recent years, ecofeminist narratives and degrowth have shaped my perspective, my research, and my movement practice. Temporary Zone is the project that currently connects and articulates my work as both a researcher and creator.
