‘What is happening?’ with Artefactum 2019-20 academic year

“What is happening” was a space for experimentation with Artefactum, aimed at creating learning situations based on everyday life and its accidents —working with the unexpected, with the event, and from a collective thinking approach.

“We deconstructed the architecture of bodies: what were the limits of what could and couldn’t be done inside a secondary school? We believed that all pedagogical practice was mediated through the body, and that it was essential to introduce performativity into learning processes. That’s why we proposed unlearning the body from the social burdens imposed on it, freeing the knowledge that had been constrained. We wanted to focus on the voices that spoke and those that didn’t, to experiment with movement in order to re-situate experience in the classroom —through a collaborative effort between students, teachers, and a contemporary artist.”

What is happening? took place at Institut Montjuïc, in the Marina de Port neighborhood, during the 2019–2020 academic year.

The Graner 2019–2020 educational program (Contact Zone) was part of the Caixa d’Eines initiative, promoted by the Pla de Barris de Barcelona, which aims to integrate artistic practices into the school curriculum to reduce inequalities between the city’s neighborhoods.
