Open studio by Magdalena Garzón

The Open Studio of Magdalena Garzón, a resident at Graner under the practical methodologies modality, was structured as a gathering focused on research into dance audiodescription methodologies.

“The initial aim of the project Research on methodologies of audiodescription in dance. Accessibility in the field of visual diversity refers to the development and expansion of Magdalena Garzón’s research work, started in 2017, around stage creation within the context of visual diversity. In this case, the aim is to delve into the practices and methodologies of co-audiodescription in dance. This involves taking on the challenge and the questions raised by the complex definition of the study itself: how do we audiodescribe the language of dance? And acknowledging the lack of knowledge we still have regarding formal audiodescription protocols and related references.

Thus, from her perspective as a dance creator, the research is approached from a place of desire — confronting the contradictions generated by today’s ocularcentrism — to reframe the condition of accessibility for blind individuals into a poetic landscape that, through the interplay of various stage elements, unfolds multiple layers of meaning.
The goal is to deepen the practices and methodologies of audiodescription in dance: both as a process intrinsic to the creation itself, and as a final output and strategy to allow people with different degrees of vision to participate in the stage experience. Another intention is to build collaborations, foster spaces for exchange, dialogue, and share experiences among the various people developing strategies and thinking around the complex set of questions that emerge from this inquiry.”
