Lautaro Reyes revisits the piece Waves, premiered in early 2025, to continue deepening his exploration and to find new, more immersive mechanisms for sharing it with the audience.
“I find myself at a moment where I can look at the work with distance and reflect on how to refine details that turn this into a different piece—a version that aligns more closely with what I would like to propose choreographically as a stage form. I believe that shifting from an ‘Italian-style’ arrangement to an immersive setup opens up the possibility for each person’s experience in the space to be unique—not only in how they interpret what they see, but also in relation to where their body is situated. This change in form revolves around the need to question the theatrical apparatus and to search for new ways in which the body can be affected through its perception of the environment.”
Waves creates a shift in the image of the body, in the experience it contains. Through a constant impulse for transformation, the performer traverses their political identity and, through movement, opens up the possibility of reconstructing themselves into another identity. In Waves, Lautaro also speaks about what his two geographical and emotional worlds mean to him: “In Chile, I became a political person; here in Europe, I became an adult. These two places are two poles that have been separated, and it’s time they collide. Political feeling, thinking, and artistic doing.”
