Big Bouncers
The founding members of the Big Bouncer collective, Anna Rubirola, Cecilia Colacrai and Mireia de Querol, are independent artists living in Barcelona. They are all independent creators based in Barcelona. They have extensive experience as solo creators and in collaboration with other artists, as well as in dance education. The collective received the Sebastià Gasch Award, Aplaudiment a la creació emergent, FAD 2015, for the piece BIG BOUNCE. In 2018, they were nominated for the Critics’ Awards for the Performing Arts (Catalonia) with the piece O.V.N.I as Best National Dance Production. In 2019, Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona) invited Big Bouncers to present several of their own works and works by artists connected to the collective as part of a Constel·lació within its programme. They began working together in May 2012, sharing concerns and developing a common practice, with the aim of researching and deepening new scenic languages and generating their own working methodology. From the outset, the collective’s work has been developed and structured around three lines of action: the creation of stage works, the creation of site-specific performances for non-conventional spaces, and pedagogy.
The collective’s interest and driving force lie in the body and its possibilities, while allowing itself to overflow the limits of dance in order to approach every element involved in the scene—set design, lighting, sound, objects, word, etc.—using the same parameters. For each new project, Big Bouncers develops a specific practice that enables them to discover the physical language most suited to the proposal. Their stage works seek to invite without imposing and to suggest without limiting the spectator’s imagination.
