Lipi Hernández

Lipi Hernández is a dancer, researcher, choreographer, and body agitator. In 1995, she founded the contemporary dance company Malqueridas, which she later transformed in 2007 into a platform for research and support for creation around the body and movement. Since then, her career has intertwined research, support for artists, choreography, pedagogical projects, and mentoring for various national artists focused on the living arts and dance. In parallel, she developed the DATA practice as an artist, centered on the study and practice of movement.

Alongside her artistic practice, she has directed and collaborated on different public projects and structures. She is a founding member and director of La Caldera Centre de Creació en Arts Escèniques in Barcelona. Between 2018 and 2024, she held the positions of Head of Choreography, Head of Dance Pedagogy, Deputy Director, and Director of the Higher Conservatory of Dance at the Institut del Teatre, as well as Director of the Osona Territorial Centre (Vic) of the Institut del Teatre.

DATA (2021) is an artistic practice centered on the act of dancing. DATA proposes moving through form from the intersection between the embodied study of systems that represent movement and our structures of thought. This journey is articulated through an approach to the Tree of Life as a Kabbalistic symbol of knowledge and the origin of creation, from which to inquire into the search for one’s own poetic gaze. A space to awaken and orient desire. DATA brings into presence a body that contains all created bodies. In practice, we sometimes recognize ourselves in what feels familiar; however, at the same time, we hold and are, in essence, all possible forms. We are the possibility of the infinite within infinity.
