Marcos Morau – La Veronal

Marcos Morau (Valencia, 1982), trained in Barcelona and New York in photography, choreography and theatre, builds imaginary worlds and landscapes in which image, text, movement, music and space form a single universe that constantly draws on cinema, photography and literature. Since 2004, Morau has directed La Veronal, a company that has appeared in theatres and festivals in more than thirty countries: the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, the Biennale di Venezia, the Festival d’Avignon, Tanz im August in Berlin, the RomaEuropa Festival, the SIDance Festival in Seoul, Sadler’s Wells in London and Danse Danse in Montreal, among many others.

In addition to his work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau is a guest artist with several European companies and theatres, where he develops new creations, always halfway between the performing arts and dance: Nederlands Dans Theater, the Opéra de Lyon Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the Royal Danish Ballet and the Royal Ballet of Flanders, among others. Since 2023 he has been an associate artist at the Staatsballett Berlin, a company linked to the Deutsche Oper, the Komische Oper and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.

Latest project in residence

The Trilogia de la vida (2026) is a series of shows that looks at life in permanent transformation. Living & Leaving is the first episode, in which two bodies face the need for mutual support. They are two presences that need each other so as not to disappear, looking for a balance that always verges on the brink of imbalance, where tension is the driving force that sustains the form. The piece is intended to occupy the inside of a theatre, a museum or an art gallery, or an outdoor space, radically displacing the spectators’ usual viewpoint and the places where performative action is usually produced.
