Alessandro Sciarroni

Alessandro Sciarroni is an Italian artist active in the field of Performing Arts, with several years of training in visual arts and theatrical research. His works are presented at contemporary dance and theatre festivals, in museums and art galleries, as well as in unconventional spaces compared to traditional cultural venues, and involve the participation of professionals from different disciplines. Among his various accolades, he was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance in 2019.

His work is rooted in a Duchampian conceptual base, makes use of theatrical staging, and may incorporate techniques and practices from dance and other disciplines such as circus and sports. In addition to the rigour, coherence, and clarity of each creation, his pieces aim to uncover—through the repetition of a practice pushed to the limits of the performers’ physical endurance—the obsessions, fears, and fragility of the performative act, in search of another temporal dimension and an empathetic relationship between audience and performers.
