Andrea El Ameri

Andrea El Ameri is a choreographer, dancer, and teacher. Her roots are grounded in urban dance — a first love that is playful, raw, and passionate, one she never forgets and that is always present. In 2018, she moved to Madrid, where contemporary dance and stage creation began to emerge in her practice. Her creative work requires access to all knowledge, with focus and intuition that are at once precise and open. She conceives the body, dance, and improvisation as the seed and the core of her creative processes. This process arises from the personal and touches the spiritual, where creation begins to find its own voice — and undoubtedly, engaging the body leads to growth and expansion

Last project in residence

Using stage, body and movement as conduits, based on personal and autobiographical elements, Doma looks to research into the dialogue between the sexual and the grotesque as a form of rebellion and social resistance against what I call the stereotypical role of the Western woman. This desire for creation springs from the contradiction and confusion I encounter in expressing my sexuality. This process also includes a desire to protest against and anger around how sexual issues are dealt with nowadays, when, far from educating and facilitating, difficulty and confusion are created.
