Anna Chirescu

Anna Chirescu is a choreographer and dance performer. After training at CNSMD Conservatory in Paris, I completed my education at the University of California, Irvine, where I attended Yvonne Rainer’s workshops. Alongside my dance career, I graduated in Modern Literature and Humanities. Since 2005, I have performed with numerous choreographers and danced Merce Cunningham’s repertoire internationally at CNDC Angers company. In 2017, I co-founded a collective company name Lava with visual artist Grégoire Schaller, creating works such as Dirty Dancers, Ordeal by Water, VACA (2022), and my first solo KATA (2025). I like to explore the relationships between body, memory, and socio-political subjects through a multidisciplinary practice combining dance, voice, narrative, and visual forms.

Latest project in residence

monte verdura – a choral project in research residency – takes as its point of departure the utopian spirit of Monte Verità, resonating with the voices of the women who shaped this “magnetic hill.” Interlacing dance, voice, text, and vegetal materials, the project unfolds as a living, transdisciplinary score. This research phase aims to develop the foundations for a future collective creation, exploring the porous boundaries between body, nature, and community while reimagining utopian heritage through the lens of contemporary issues. Both tribute and critique, it will questions how ideals of freedom, collective life, and harmony with nature might still nourish our imagination. The project extends a solo performance first conceived in dialogue with “La scia del monte” and “Les voix magnétiques” at MBAL, Le Locle. In Graner, Anna Chirescu will be in residency with artistic collaborator and dramaturg François Maurisse.
