Laura Alcalà Freudenthal

I’m an independent dance artist, and I work combining projects as a director, creator, assistant director, performer, movement director, teacher, and as a creative. Now, I’m facing this solo (POP) from the desire and necessity accumulated over the past few years. To do this, I call Irene, a playwright with whom we’ve been crossing paths for years and with whom we connect through artistic and intuitive love. Together, we talk about chakras, frustrations, who we wanted to be, stage creation, buying essential oils on Amazon, and we try to remember why we’re here.

Residency project

POP is a millennial portrait in the form of a dance monologue crossed by different stories of love and passion that lead to self-destruction. A woman who tries to achieve everything but ends up achieving nothing invites us into this intimate spectacle and speaks to us—through humor—about survival tips, fragility, obsessions, frustration, and the fact of dying. Did you know that flamingos do that—stand on one leg—to save energy? Did you? Neither did I. But ever since I found out, life has been great.
