Cia. Miquel Barcelona

With a career shaped by collaborations with artists such as Carolyn Carlson and Sasha Waltz, Miquel Barcelona began creating his own works in 2013 with projects like Davantera and El Banquet at the nunArt Guinardó space. In 2017, he officially founded his company, producing notable pieces such as Pelegrins, [kórps], parrà, and rojos, exploring themes of memory and death rituals while promoting dance in a variety of contexts.

Since 2022, the company has had its own rehearsal space, which also serves as a cultural hub for other companies: Turbo. In 2023, the company launched Contracultura, a project consisting of six pieces (three exhibition-based and three stage works), funded by OSIC and ICEC. Throughout 2024, the company continued touring with its current productions, rojos, and also launched new stage creations such as Utopia and Desferra, along with two exhibition pieces: Anatomy of an Unknown Profession (2023) and Ecosystem.

Orgia puts body through the sexualised gaze and looks for ways to show the beauty of the pleasure of bodies (associated with prohibition, dissidence or immorality). The choreographic research aims to deconstruct choreographic tools from different countercultural dances (voguing, waacking, twerking and dancehall) in order to generate a scenic narrative that questions the sexualised, capitalistic and heteronormative gaze directed at the body.
