Natalia Barraza
The Winter Circus emerged in 1996, within the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris, with the intention of promoting the creation of stable professional circus companies and offering unique, high-quality, medium-format theater proposals. Aimed at all types of audiences, the Ateneu has been producing this show for 28 years, which is presented during December and January in its theater with approximately 8 school performances and 24 general performances.
Natalia Barraza: She is a director, playwright, and dramaturge. She has worked for over 20 years with various dance, circus, physical, visual, and object theater companies in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, England, Austria, Georgia, France, and Italy. Coming from a family of puppeteers, she trained as an actress and dancer. She began her relationship with the circus at the age of 17 through the Circo Salapia company, deepening her skills in static trapeze at the National Circus School of Havana. Subsequently, she became part of the cast of Batz, the first professional contemporary circus company in Mexico. She arrived in Europe to learn about different ways of understanding circus on stage and found in Barcelona her place for inspiration, training, and artistic experimentation. She continued her training in circus and dance with various professionals and pursued a degree in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy at the Institut del Teatre. She researches the expanded territories of the stage such as installation, site-specific, and multidisciplinary shows. Her creations explore the complementarity of scenic and multimedia languages through textual and visual poetry.
