Norberto Llopis

With a background in dance and philosophy, I develop an artistic and theoretical practice centered around the body, movement, and performativity. This practice crystallizes in different forms, such a performances, essays on artistic practice, performative lectures, installations, and durational actions. My current research focuses on the practice with and around the notion of operation in the performing arts.

Residency project

THE OPERATION is a piece called THE OPERATION, it is about the operation, and it is made up of operations—operations like a surgical incision or amputation, a graft in botany, a mathematical function or a substitution of variables in calculus, a strategic military operation, or a simple banking operation.
The operation itself is unattainable, we only see its effects. An intervention, a cut, a substitution, a replacement—in themselves, these are not seen, not touched. What is seen is new material, material now cut, but not the cut itself. THE OPERATION is that among the things we cannot see, but that continually modifies and challenges our ways of looking, signifying, and relating to an object.
