Pol Jiménez

I’m Pol Jiménez, an artist trained in Spanish and flamenco dance, always exploring new codes and questions of the contemporary stage and thought to nourish my creations. Trained in Spanish dance by the Professional Conservatory of Dance of Barcelona, whom I represented as a choreographer at the International Assembly 2013 in Toronto organized by the National Ballet School of Canada, and at the Andalusian Dance Center of Seville. I have an intense trajectory as a dancer and choreographer because since I was 18, I have been working with companies or choreographers such as la Fura dels Baus, Cesc Gelabert, Juan Carlos Lérida, José Manuel Álvarez, Ángel Rojas, or Mdvd. I am part of the music group “Los Aurora”. I premiere my productions at the Mercat de les Flors, Sala Hiroshima, and Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, winning awards such as “Best Dancer” at the 2018 Performing Arts Critics Awards and the XXV Butaca Awards. I become part of the catalogs recommended by the Spanish Theater Network. Currently on tour with my latest production “Lo faunal” and coordinating the cycles “Se avecina” in Pla Roig and “Cronexiones” in La Tacones.

Residency project

Creation of a 50-minute solo dance in the initial phase. With sub-formats of 15 and 30 minutes. In search of the team that will accompany me as professionals who can be either supportive or in artistic direction, working from and for the body. What is the body of Spanish Copla like? How could it dance it? Copla is an artistic genre from the early 20th century in Spain, which combines music, lyrics, and interpretation. “Maria de la O,” “La niña de fuego,” “la zarzamora,” among others. I pose questions like: Who are they directed to? How and from where were they arranged? What was their own thought in the interpretation of the lyrics? How and from which place did they show their body?
