BOCA #7 invites us to listen to the conversation between Paula Quintana (creator) and Xavier Arqué (nanobiotechnologist) about the relationship between science and choreography, the centrality of the body, the materiality and immateriality of scientific processes, and other related topics, all from the research and creation process led by Paula Quintana, under the name HUERTO. A project selected through an open call to be supported by Graner throughout 2022, in the research modality.
Xavier Arqué Roca (researcher at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and PhD in the movement of biohybrid nanoparticles). Starting from his undergraduate (2012-2016) and master’s (2016-2017) training in molecular nanobiotechnology at the University of Barcelona and his academic research experience at ERIBA (Groningen, Netherlands, 2015-2016) and IBEC (Barcelona, Spain, 2017-2022), he recently creates synergies between science and the arts, as well as with audiovisual storytelling based on Scriptwriting studies (2021) and Film Directing (2022) at La Casa del Cine Barcelona. He has been involved in outreach and educational activities: Catalan Biotechnologists Association (2016-2020) and sector professionals (Congress of Entrepreneurial Scientists of AEEC, 2017, and the “Start-up in Life Sciences” conference by ASBTEC with YEBN, 2019).
HUERTO is an artistic work that crosses astrophysical and biochemical sciences and the so-called ‘occult sciences,’ approached from the physical and organic experience, positioning the body as both a generating and generated entity, inhabiting it as a galaxy of systems, plans, and knowledge that interact and intertwine. An artistic process with the intention of breaking established hierarchies between disciplines, experiencing them through the body itself. HUERTO articulates the scenic dramaturgy as a ritual of a female body that crosses and is crossed, with a fabulating and mythical narrative.
