Sentiens Project with Emma Villavecchia, weekly sessions with the 4th-grade group at Escola Enric Granados, in the Marina de Port neighborhood. With the support of their teacher, Jordi Rosat.
Would you be able to describe your favorite flavor in words? And a smell? What would it be like to dance based on tactile, sound, or visual sensations? Throughout this school year, the students of Enric Granados will become, together with Emma, researchers and explorers of the human body and its possibilities for movement. They will also explore their surroundings, entering into dialogue with other forms of life. Taking the senses and perception as a starting point, they will discover new ways of connecting, communicating, and caring for one another. They will see that beyond the five senses we usually talk about, there are others that are less known, such as proprioception or circadian rhythms… a whole world to discover through movement and dance. They will do so alongside animals and plants that seem to have sensory superpowers and very different ways of moving—other ways of perceiving reality that will set our imagination in motion.
Emma Villavecchia studied contemporary dance at Bennington College (USA). Between 2016 and 2019, she co-directed the dance collective Three Planes Collective. Since then, she has taken part in artistic and educational projects in collaboration with other artists and centers (La Visiva, Grup d’estudi Cascades), developing stage and audiovisual creations (Rítmia, Babelian Circles, Neopicnic) and carrying out various research projects (sabores y saberes). She has presented her work at Mercat de les Flors, Casa Elizalde, Festival Sismògraf, Galeria Cadaqués, the Rite festival, and international screendance festivals, among others. She has taught dance, rhythm, and body-awareness classes and workshops in different centers.
In 2022, she became interested in artistic creation within educational contexts (EnResidència, Tot Dansa, Tots Dansen, Mapadeball), working with teenagers, educators, and teachers in collaboration with María Fernanda Soberón. Recently, she moved to Llinars del Vallès, where she joined the team at the Laboratori d’Arts Contemplatives and Casa Virupa. She has also joined the team of creators in Graner’s educational program, participating in the Caixa d’Eines program with primary-school students. She is currently completing her certification as a Somatic Movement Educator (Body-Mind Centering®) and continuing her Master’s in Educational Research at the UAB, specializing in art, body, and movement.
