The culmination of the work sustained throughout the entire course of Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes with the 3rd year students of ESO at Instituto Escuela Antaviana is approaching. On Thursday, May 16, 2024, they will open their process to the public with a proposal they have named Lila 40, at the Pina Bausch Room of the Mercat de les Flors.
Lila 40 is the result of a year-long creative process involving the 3rd year students of ESO at Instituto Escuela Antaviana in Nou Barris, with the artists of Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes directed by Valentina Azzati and Milagros García.
“Since its inception, Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes has been dedicated to the study, practice, and creation of instant composition pieces. Discussing what instant composition is and what improvisation means is always controversial, even within artistic and professional contexts. Working from improvisation to create an instant composition piece with teenagers is yet another chapter in the story. Throughout the process, we have been observing and adjusting our methodology to the various challenges that arise in the classroom. The numerous questions brought forth new ways of approaching improvisation with this group of young creators, where certain choreographic structures (flexible and permeable) are necessary to provide support and containment within the scene. We like to say that Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes always works “with what’s there”, carefully attending to the poetics of each group we work with. Therefore, this piece is the result of the blend and synergy between our interests as young artists and the tastes, affections, and desires of the group of teenagers from Instituto Antaviana. Thus, Lila 40 is a 20-minute dance piece in which bodies, sound, lights, and scenery will come together on stage to compose in real time. What will happen during these 20 minutes? Neither we nor they nor the audience knows.”
