The project by the artist collective Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes (SLMFV) is in full swing at the Institut Escola Antaviana. The creative process, involving 3rd-grade students from IE Antaviana, has had two notable moments during this second trimester.
According to the teacher Quim Cubarsí, the first significant moment was the open session in front of the entire faculty, marking the inauguration of a new room at the institute called the Asphalt Room. The second important moment was the visit to Graner, a technical residency day where students could experiment with the lighting and sound of the piece they are creating. The artists from the SLMFV collective, Milagros and Valentina, emphasize the importance of these two experiences. The open session allowed students to dance in front of a real audience, helping them understand what happens to them when they are on stage. This experience also gave them the opportunity to trust the work they have been doing, take ownership of it, and defend it as a group.
The visit and technical residency at Graner were another significant experience. During a whole day, students had the opportunity to observe and experience how a creation is worked on from the body, including lights and sound. They could put their bodies into action, dance, go through the structure and choreography a couple of times, as well as actively participate in the construction and design of the lighting and sound for the scene. During the session at Graner, photographer Tristán Pérez-Martín was invited to document the day.
The creative process of “En Residencia” is in full swing, and we are excited to see how it develops in the coming months. With the dedication and enthusiasm of all involved, there is no doubt that the final result will be impressive.
EN RESiDENCIA is a program of the Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Barcelona Education Consortium, devised in cooperation with the A Bao A Qu association, which brings creators to work throughout an academic year in the classroom. This work, which concludes with the presentation of a piece, in this case linked to dance and movement, intensely and significantly brings together creation, education, and mediation.
