Pocket Choreographies in the Classroom: Helping Regulate Children’s Attention States with Silvia Sant Funk
“This course, I am resuming the work process already initiated last year (21-22, within the Graner’s educational program) with El Polvorí School. It is gratifying to see that the issues I faced in this research and pedagogy process a year ago remain essential to me today. There are two statements that are the root of everything I develop with the children:
- What we pay attention to is our reality.
- The state of our attention determines the quality of our experience.
We know that the digital age is drastically transforming the phenomenon of attention, especially in children. We all suffer from the distraction the digital age brings! I want to continue advocating that dance is an integrative artistic language in which thought, emotion, and action are shaped through our moving body. Additionally, dance facilitates learning processes. The body, functioning in an integrated and creative way, is a great tool in the classroom. Keeping this in mind, within the framework of Graner’s educational program, I will develop two simple and short movement proposals, each with a different purpose, that can be integrated into the classroom and become part of their routines.”
Silvia Sant Funk:
After many years dedicated to contemporary dance as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher, I am interested in the benefits that body awareness, movement, and creative work have for anyone, regardless of age or condition.
I get involved in projects that focus on the relationships between dance and pedagogy and dance and health. I offer training under the title “The Intelligent Body” to individuals, youth, and organizations, aiming to reconnect with their own body and its wisdom, focusing on essential issues such as presence, communication, interpersonal relationships, and creativity. More sporadically, but with equal passion, I maintain my dedication to stage creation, developing my own works and collaborating with other creators.
