Africa Moment 2021

El Graner, within the framework of Africa Moment 2019, hosted the multimodal art project AFROPOLIS from July 10 to 18. A multimodal art project that combined artistic collaboration and both remote and physical interaction. The Afropolis meetings took place online and in three cities, including Barcelona, where local artists joined international artists in a presentation on July 18.

Afropolis, led by Qudus Onikeku, was a gathering of artists, thinkers, and promoters who came together with the aim of investigating new processes of undisciplined exchange between performance staging, design, community engagement, and digital technology, in order to generate creative synergies among a network of Africans and Afro-descendants spread around the world. It was about imagining new ways of doing and expressing innovative ideas. Afropolis 2021 culminated with a presentation on July 18 at the Human Rights Garden (next to El Graner). In this process, besides the international Afropolis artists, about ten professional artists from Barcelona participated.

A production by Qudus Onikeku, in collaboration with Africa Moment and with the support of El Graner, Center for Dance and Live Arts Creation.

Also, in November 2021, El Graner hosted in residence (and showcased) various artists who took part in the AM international meeting: Yinka Esi Graves, Aïda Colmenero, Carlos Martiel, Jessica Esther Moreno, Pak Ndjamena, and Rosy Timas.
