Collaboration with MACBA in the framework of the Exhibition María Teresa Hincapié. If This Were a Principle of Infinity
El Graner collaborated with MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona) as part of the exhibition the museum dedicated to Colombian artist María Teresa Hincapié (1954–2008), who specialized in what could be called “the poetics of domesticity” in performance art. She transformed routine actions into symbolic acts, creating a methodology in her practice. María Teresa Hincapié had a unique definition of performance, which she often referred to as “training.” Far from any specific categorization, her practice oscillated between life, movement-based creation, and an approach to mysticism.
MACBA, in turn, invited María José Arjona to develop a new work that engaged in dialogue with the performative language of María Teresa Hincapié. This piece, titled En silencio pero juntos (In Silence but Together), brought together six performers selected through a call-and-audition process supported by El Graner. Furthermore, El Graner hosted the rehearsal process for the piece. It was a proposal that explored ideas about the body, objects, and how we relate to space.
Following the audition process, the performers selected were Gloria Ros, Nicolás Poggi, Iver Zapata, Marta Begué, Mauricio Sierra, and Mamadou Diallo.
The performance En silencio pero juntos by María José Arjona, in collaboration with other performers, took place in the halls and surroundings of MACBA throughout the exhibition period (from October 20, 2022, to April 10, 2023).
