As part of Graner’s collaboration with Africa Moment, artists Ana Maíra and Khadim (Ana María Favacho and Khadim Ndiaye), along with Andrea Bonilla, open their respective creative processes, which they have been developing in residence at Graner. Andrea Bonilla presents Buscando a Antonia, and Ana María and Khadim present Berço das águas.
“Buscando a Antonia is a personal journey to get to know my grandmother, about whom I know only a few basic things: she liked to play parqués, she was loving, she spoke softly but was determined, the people in her neighborhood loved her, she was from Chocó (a department located on Colombia’s northwestern coast with a predominantly Black population), and she enjoyed sitting in her rocking chair and listening to music.”
Berço das águas is a contemporary dance performance inspired by the environmental disasters affecting Brazil’s cerrado region. Characterized by its vegetation, undergrowth, and deeply rooted, twisted trees, the cerrado is vital to the supply of Latin America’s main aquifers, which is why it’s known as the cradle of water.
The project explores socio-environmental issues, moving between the inherent beauty and poetry of nature and the harsh reality of ecological disasters caused by humans throughout the technological era, aiming to create moments of connection and reflection through art. This project invites the audience to look at themselves, at others, and at the world around them.
