Open studio by Ça Marche

What is the relationship between play and death? With this question in mind, and working exclusively with non-professional actresses, the company Ça Marche begins a trilogy that will unfold over the coming years.

In the Middle Ages, the term cantus gestualis referred to literary compositions meant to be sung or recited aloud, recounting the deeds and exploits of kings and heroes of the time, but also the martyrdoms of saints. In this way, the audience who listened to these stories of pain and suffering could put their own troubles into perspective and bear them more easily.
Building on this idea, the company Ça Marche creates a narrative centered on the relationship between theatre and death, and how both are woven into our daily lives. They do so by working with two non-professional women over the age of 75, who fully lead this performance. Taking on the role of ancient storytellers, these performers explore what cantus and gestualis might mean in our present lives, seeking out the hidden and secluded spaces of our existence that we preserve as individuals.
