Open Studio by Carminda Soares and Maria R Soares

Bright Horses is a dance piece for 6 performers – 3 pairs of siblings – that uses internal and family dynamics to critically reflect on competition in today’s capitalist society. Bringing real life experiences to the stage through a cast with real family relationships, the piece develops 3 choreographic dialogues between siblings who navigate territories that evoke conflict, aggression, grief, separation and affection, illustrating the complexity of family relationships as a microcosm of wider social dynamics. A dance piece coproduced by O Espaço do Tempo, Cineteatro Louletano and Centro Cultural Vila Flor, as part of Projeto CASA; and Teatro Municipal do Porto. Other supports: Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

We are Carminda Soares and Maria R Soares, Portuguese artists working in dance, choreography and performance. Our collaborative work is driven by the creation of new devices that explore various states of intimacy, resistance, and affection, while diving into fictional realities that resonate with the social and political contexts around us.
