Open studio by de Laila Tafur and Enrique del Castillo

Laila Tafur and Enrique del Castillo, Graner 2026 resident artists in the Creation programme, open the doors of their studio to share a selection of choreographic and sonic materials that are taking shape as Fondo Alto, a sonic exploration of folklore that evokes a landscape, imagines a place, and speaks to us of vastness and the abyss.

Fondo Alto is Enrique del Castillo and Laila Tafur. They come from different disciplines: he is a visual artist and trained musician who hacks machines, diverting them from their original purpose. She is a choreographer and self-described bastard dancer who pushes at the margins and filters the knowledge of practice into the archive. Long live the living archive! Because that is what songs are: living archives that narrate, bear witness to, and articulate the story of a time and a place.

A landscape is looked at without asking it to be more this or more that. To look at a landscape is to remain open to being shaped by it—or, to put it less pessimistically, open to accepting what is there. If only music were listened to, or dance watched, in the same way.
