Mª del Mar Suárez Jurado, also known as La Chachi, will share her working methodology at Graner next June through a laboratory.
We are looking for a group of 20 people who wish to participate in the laboratory “FLAMENCO FOR NON-FLAMENCO BODIES,” which will be held at Graner from June 3 to 5 (5 PM to 8 PM).
The group will be formed through this call, and a selection will be made from all the applications received. We are looking for people who can attend most of the sessions. If someone cannot attend a session, prior notice should be given to discuss it with the artist.
La Chachi is a resident of Graner 24 by public call in the creation category.
Laboratory Description
“In “Flamenco for Non-Flamenco Bodies,” we will dive into the flamenco universe to bring out the CANASTERAS within us. In choral formation, we will introduce ourselves to the tango rhythm: clapping, body percussion, and vocal jaleos. We will explore minimal impulse, its maximum expression, vocal composition, and movement. We will work on surfaces—how do you dance on the floor in flamenco? And the wall? We will rediscover the use of the shawl, fan, skirt… Through improvisation and pure play, we will focus especially on emotional, facial expression, and choreography. All sections will be differentiated into personal research lines and group or pair work. We will conclude with a fun choreography where we will put everything we have learned into practice. Arsa, what a show!!!”
Mª del Mar Suárez la Chachi (1980): Flamenco dancer and actress from Malaga interested in new stage languages. With degrees in both disciplines, I trained simultaneously in contemporary dance, gestural theater, and new dramaturgies; I discovered my passion… the union of all the above. I am fascinated by gesture, impossible bodies, uncomfortable discourses, human behavior, and FLAMENCO. Without methodology and pure intuition but with very clear science. Increasingly distant from choreography or closer than ever, currently, I am entangled in two very opposite terrains: my two latest works, Los inescalables Alpes, buscando a Currito and Taranto Aleatorio, both on international tour. Respectively, the Godot Award 2022 for Best Dance Show and a special jury mention at the Feria Palma del Río.
