Constanza Brnčić, dancer and PhD in philosophy, will share her practice and research next November through a four-session laboratory.
Lateral Practices is a project in the field of live arts and dance that unfolds in three dimensions: research, methodological definition, and creation. Starting from the notion of laterality as a direction that guides the body —the bodies— and, therefore, perception, attention, and thought, in this workshop I propose to share some of the questions and practices that I have distilled over the past years. To the question: What is there, on the side?, we respond from the body, writing, and drawing, searching for a third landscape, a place between places, where diversity proliferates and where we can see the measure and limit of our action. We will work by engaging the body, voice, and words in proposals that aim to mobilize the imagination, open reflection, and cultivate perception and listening.
I combine artistic and research work in the field of creation in performing arts, with a special interest in the contextuality of practices, and the realization of numerous stage, community, and pedagogical projects —including the community project PI(È)CE (2011_2022), the stage piece “Registres Evanescents” (Auditori 2023), or “Peça sense mi” (Mercat de les Flors 2023)—, with teaching Composition, Improvisation, and movement techniques at the Conservatory of Dance (CSD / Institut del Teatre). I am the director of the postgraduate program in Live Arts and Contexts (Institut del Teatre de Barcelona).
Constanza Brncic is a resident at Graner 2024 through a public call in the special mention modality.
