To accompany Improvável’s stay at Graner and open their work to our local context, we created a screening and conversation session featuring the film they themselves conceived and created, titled Short, short, long and sometimes short, long, short, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 7 p.m. The screening was followed by an open conversation with the two choreographers (Marcela Levi and Lucía Russo) and Bárbara Raubert.
“In 1944, to escape Nazi persecution, Yiddish poet Abraham Sutzkever was forced to cross a minefield with his wife. To do so, they walked to the rhythm of anapests (two short syllables followed by one long) and amphibrachs (a long syllable between two short ones). They walked one kilometer and survived to tell the story. How can we cross this minefield called Brazil? Short, short, long and sometimes short, long, short was filmed in Rio de Janeiro, in Tijuca, in front of the wall of the First Battalion of the Army Police, where civilians were detained during the military dictatorship. What can be done when facing a wall? How do we infiltrate such a blockade? The poetic feet of anapest —short, short, long— and amphibrach —short, long, short— can be associated with the rhythms of marching and samba, respectively.”
