The fourth edition of Viu Montjuïc takes place on October 5 and 6, 2024, across various venues and spaces on Montjuïc mountain. More than 70 venues are coming together to strengthen connections between neighbors and citizens, filling this great green space of the city with proposals, itineraries, and activities.
In this fourth edition, Graner participates in dialogue with two venues: Montjuïc Castle and the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, both of which we have already established a relationship with and collaborated within the framework of Viu Montjuïc and other contexts.
On Saturday, October 5, at 6:00 PM at Montjuïc Castle, we will collaborate with the presentation of a double dance program:
- Quien baila su mal espanta by Joaquín Collado with Pol López, a duet that explores the relationship that unfolds in a dance between two, particularly between two men, traversing the imagination of couple dances, from folklore to ballroom dancing.
- Invocation by Carmen Muñoz, an invocation from flamenco that channels three key figures of postmodern dance: Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, and Trisha Brown.
On Saturday, October 5, and Sunday, October 6, at 6:00 PM at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, a newly created performance will be presented, supported by Graner and the Pavilion:
Hebra by Paula Quintana, a solo performance set in a pavilion filled with tropical plants that transcends the boundaries of dance, uniting the performer’s body with the plant and architectural bodies. This intervention consists of three scenes, each 15 minutes long, and staged in three different spaces within the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion: the outdoor pool, the pavilion interior filled with tropical plants, and the pavilion roof. The three scenes create a bond with the space. A literal connection, woven through braids of hair that extend and branch out from Paula Quintana to the architectural and plant bodies, and inversely, from these bodies to the dancer.
“A weave between bodies of diverse natures that reminds us of the reciprocity of our relationships and actions, and the fabric we are part of. A continuous dance between bodies, natures, and scales that respond to one another. A network we hold and that holds us through time and space. A call to responsibility towards the beauty and delicate power of this braided fabric.”
