El Cos Respira (The Body Breathes) was born in 2016 with the aim of offering a process of personal transformation and social cohesion through empowerment, which would improve the quality of life, social integration, and personal development of the women from the La Marina neighborhood. Leading the project, Mercedes Boronat mediated the sessions and co-created, together with the participants, the openings at the end of each process. The first edition had a group of 23 women of all ages who, over 4 months, took part in a workshop at Graner and a final performance: Inner Landscape. The second edition continued the project with 10 meetings throughout the year and a performance (Angles) which was shown at the MNAC. Finally, in January 2018, a performative presentation of the process of these two years of collective work was held, with 3 open performances for 90 people (30 people per performance).
With El Cos Respira, the women from the La Marina neighborhood participated in and experienced a creative space and time that fostered personal creativity, lived experience, and expression. The performative work was an important part of the process: the performance became a personal experience capable of restoring the full potential of transformation and emotions, a tool for personal evolution. A profound state of empowerment that worked from the awareness of the body.
