Aurora Bauzà & Pere Jou

We are Aurora Bauzà & Pere Jou, composers, creators, and performers in the field of performing arts. Our main research focuses on the human voice and its intricate connections with the body, movement, space, stage, and light. Our compositions go beyond the traditional boundaries of artistic genres, treating music as a multidimensional entity with physical, performative, visual, dramaturgical, expressive, and poetic qualities. In recent years, we have presented several scenic works that explore the human voice and the complexity of identity from various perspectives, formats, and scenic formats. All of these are unified by our commitment to creating dramaturgical narratives through the human voice.

Our artistic approach involves a physical and movement practice that deconstructs the resonant motion of sound (singing) from visual movement, creating a distinctive interaction. Choreography, viewed through an acoustic lens, blends seamlessly with musical composition, shaping the essence and dramaturgical structure of our interdisciplinary work.

Residency project

LOBO is a research and stage creation project inspired by the personal discovery of the work Lamentatione Ieremiæ Prophetæ by composer Alonso Lobo (1555–1617). Starting from Lobo’s vocal creation, we aim to develop a contemporary interdisciplinary work where the voice, intimately tied to its physical support—the body—interacts with space, movement, and light exploration. LOBO is an interdisciplinary exploration of vocal, choreographic, and lighting language centered on the concept of otherness. Human relationships are constructive or destructive depending on whether or not we recognize one another as equals: “A man is a wolf rather than a man to another man.”

LOBO seeks to reflect on the challenge that otherness has always posed for collective coexistence. We believe that from our present, and in the creation of positive futures, it is essential to continue reflecting on the need to recognize oneself in the other to build meaningful connections.
