Violetta Cottini

Violetta Cottini is an artist and performer working across dance, performance, and visual arts. Her practice unfolds through the creation of speculative and sensory worlds, where imagination, matter, and perception intertwine. Raised in a mountain village, her work is inspired by these landscapes and by the exploration of their darker, occult dimensions.

She investigates the construction of physical and sensitive spaces in which bodies, objects, and materials meet, generating subtle shifts within reality, inviting altered modes of perception and presence. She collaborates with Cristina Kristal Rizzo and the collective DOM-. In 2024, she was awarded the ERetici grant, where Do fairies have a tail? was developed and selected for the Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore eXtra 2025. She is currently supported by the FONDO network (2025/2026).

Fey (working title) is an attempt to emanate an elsewhere to immerse in and disappear into, not as a destination but as a branching, perhaps osseous one. The project revolves around the relationship between the minuscule invisible and the vast invisible, encountering dragons, sprites, and dark, mischievous presences. It investigates the manifestation of otherwise unseen zones, revealed through the infrared vision of camera traps, where fantastical creatures and nocturnal enchantments emerge. The research explores the creation of experiences capable of producing subtle distortions in reality, activating perceptual traps and opening new ways of imagining and perceiving. Fantasizing becomes an act of radical construction and reclamation. Where does the fantastic reside in our bodies and in the world? Who decides what exists and what does not?
