With Caixa d’eines Graner, the aim was to weave long-term, flexible, and non-hierarchical collaborations to build an educational community in the broadest sense: with teachers, students, families, and the neighborhood. Rooted in mutual support and trust, sharing challenges, concerns, and connections. An education based on living practices—open, unpredictable, and constantly under construction. With space and time to decide where we place our focus and attention.
The pedagogical program that Graner developed for the 2018–2019 academic year was built around the following questions: Art education for whom, for what, and how? What happens to that which is not expressed through words? What kind of attention do we give to embodied knowledge? How can what happens in the classroom be more than anecdotal—something meaningful for the school? How do we participate? Do we have spaces for observation? Can we transcend the roles of student-teacher-creator? How far are we willing to take risks? What can we do together?
Graner’s educational program is part of the Caixa d’Eines initiative, promoted by Barcelona’s Pla de Barris (Neighborhood Plan), which introduces artistic practices into the school curriculum with the aim of reducing inequality between the city’s neighborhoods.
