The curatorship and mediation of Graner and Mercat de les Flors brought choreographer Toni Mira into dialogue with Instituto Comas i Solà during the 2016-17 academic year, as part of the EN RESiDÈNCiA program by the Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Barcelona Education Consortium, devised in cooperation with the Association A Bao A Qu.
Toni Mira (Barcelona, 1957) is an actor, dancer, and choreographer. He studied architecture up to the fifth year and graduated in contemporary dance from the Theatre Institute of Barcelona. He works as an actor and dancer with various dance and theater companies in the city. In 1987, he co-founded his own dance company, Nats Nus, with Claudia Moreso, with which he has directed and choreographed nineteen shows performed in over twenty countries across four continents. He has created choreographies for several European contemporary dance companies and has worked as a choreographer in numerous theater and musical productions in the city, including “Flor de Nit,” “Dancing,” “Guys and Dolls,” among others. He teaches dance and choreography courses and workshops in various European cities. He is a founding member of La Caldera (National Dance Prize 2006). In 2009, he received the Barcelona City Award, and in 2010, the National Dance Prize of Catalonia.
Institut Comas i Solà (Trinitat Vella, Sant Andreu) was established in 1990 in response to local pressure to prevent young people from having to travel to other neighborhoods for secondary education. The center was named after Josep Comas i Solà, an astronomer and scientific communicator who was a pioneer of modern astronomy in Catalonia and also served as director of the Fabra Observatory.
