Graner and Mercat de les Flors curate and mediate this academic year 2022-23, bringing together choreographers Emma Villavecchia and Maria Soberón with the 4th-grade students of Institut Teresa Pàmies and Miquel Barcelona with the 2nd-grade students of Institut Dolors Aleu.
Emma Villavecchia completed her studies in contemporary dance at Bennington College (Vermont, USA). Between 2016 and 2019, she was the co-artistic director of Three Planes Collective alongside Finn Murphy and Kaya Lovestrand. Together, they collaborated with choreographers Isabel López and Elena Demyanenko, presenting their creations in Barcelona, Los Angeles, New York, and Vermont. Currently residing in Barcelona, Emma participates in artistic and pedagogical projects, developing her own stage and audiovisual creations in collaboration with various artists and centers (Casa Virupa, La Visiva, Galería Cadaqués). She has showcased her works at Casa Elizalde, Barceloneta Civic Center, Sismógrafo Festival, and international screendance festivals. Emma has taught classes, workshops, and labs at Roca Umbert, Mercat de les Flors, Barceloneta Civic Center, La Visiva, and Casa del Movimiento. She recently premiered the piece “Rítmia” at Mercat de les Flors, in collaboration with composer Mauricio Villavecchia and dancers María Soberón and Urša Sekirnik. Since 2019, she has been training as a Movement Somatic Educator at Movement Atlas (Zaragoza), an official school of Body-Mind Centering ®.
Maria Soberón‘s multidisciplinary research work lies at the intersection of music, dance, and mathematics, with the body and its musical potential as the central focus of her interests. Trained in piano and holding a degree in Pure Mathematics from Queen Mary University of London, Maria settled in Barcelona and joined the reflection and development team of NUZIC, an innovative pedagogical method for musical creation and analysis. As a dancer, she has participated in various creation residencies, workshops, and labs, such as RITMA, a contemporary dance and live music creation led by Emma Villavecchia; or “MUSA and other aquatic birds” (Irregular Company), a scenic proposal that blends documentary material and theoretical and poetic texts with a sound space based on voice. Alongside María Mora and Majo Villafaina, she forms ODALIPO (Danzistic Linguistic Potential Workshop). “PREPOSITIONS,” with a residency at La Visiva, is ODALIPO’s first process-piece, based on the premise that, prior to position, there exists a preposition – a play of words, dance, and relationships.
Institut Teresa Pàmies. Located in the Horta-Guinardó district, at the crossroads of Gràcia and Eixample, Institut Teresa Pàmies has been operational for over forty years, but it wasn’t until the 2019-2020 academic year that it was named after writer, journalist, and political activist Teresa Pàmies (Balaguer, 1919-Granada, 2012). With the 4th-grade students of Institut Teresa Pàmies and the supporting teachers, this ENRESiDENCIA project promises to be an exciting and enriching collaboration, bridging the realms of education, creation, and mediation
EN RESiDENCIA is a program of the Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Barcelona Education Consortium, devised in cooperation with the A Bao A Qu association.
