Transitioteen
This project aims to bring transfeminist studies and policies to secondary schools. What happens to a transgender body when it enters the school? Starting from this question, we organize a series of artistic sessions where we analyze the spaces, protocols, performativities, and choreographies of the educational center from a gender perspective.
At IES Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the TRANSITIOTEEN project brings transfeminist practices to schools from a performative, experiential, and critical point of view. Focusing on the processes of transition during adolescence, Sara and Lin address the lack of training in queer theory and trans-inclusive gender at the school. The pedagogical practice focuses on the experiential and sensitive experience of adolescents both inside and outside the school: highlighting their emotions, questions, and rejections with artistic practices linked to the body and choreography. This subject matter, what they are to themselves, as well as the recognition of ‘THE OTHER,’ involves jointly constructing a narrative, shifting their own perspective on the world, and questioning what has always been accepted as normality. The goal is to review the school space-building from a trans perspective: What needs to change in the school to make it a more welcoming space for trans bodies?
