Choreographic Practices through Appropriation and Copying emerges from the following question: can we destabilise the concept of authorship in dance? This question unfolds into different strategies and practices that seek to continue thinking about and investigating the transmission of dance and copyright, historically tied to a modern conception of property.
Through the transmission of choreographic materials from various ghost dancers (a transposition of the literary figure of the ghostwriter), acquired through remuneration and contract, we explore the possibility of these dances continuing to circulate beyond the performance circuit and being reproduced in the virtual environment of VRChat. Together with Serafín Álvarez, during Busseig week, we will consider how these dances can be activated and freely danced by different users, shifting from a regime of private ownership towards forms of collective use.

Serafín Álvarez is an artist, researcher and educator based in Barcelona. His practice explores the ways in which we relate to the unknown, particularly through scientific research and speculative fiction. Through the collection, organisation and association of images, he constructs digital worlds using technologies derived from video games, creating environments that acquire a life of their own. He has presented his work at institutions and festivals such as MACBA, Fundació Joan Miró, La Casa Encendida, CA2M, MUSAC, Sónar and Trafó, among others, and his work is held in collections including those of MACBA, Fundación Montemadrid and BMW Group. Alongside his artistic practice, he is Head of the Department of Languages, Techniques and Technologies at BAU and has initiated various educational, curatorial and research projects related to art, video games, sound and digital culture. He holds a PhD in Design and Communication from BAU-UVic.
