STUDY GROUPS

Matèria programme arises from the desire to give body to thought and to position artistic practice as a starting point for the production of knowledge, outside the logics of stage production and institutional academic frameworks.

Matter is the tangible yet immaterial substance that transforms when it comes into contact with other gazes, languages and ways of knowing. For this reason, the programme is structured around study groups: research devices led by artists. Through hybrid formats, the groups offer a time to pause, deepen and complicate the questions that run through dance and the live arts, recognising and legitimising the somatic, aesthetic and political knowledges that emerge from artistic work.

Matèria is aimed at diverse and cross-disciplinary profiles from the stage, critical thinking and other fields of knowledge such as philosophy, anthropology, curating or cultural policy.

Based on the personal research of Joaquín Collado and Natalia Fernandes, the study group starts from an exercise in observation of the narrow, authoritarian forms that the gaze and language often exert on the practice of others.
