During the spring of 2024, we launched a new collaboration with the city program Fora de Reserves, which was implemented during the 2023-2024 school year with a pilot edition. This program involves the temporary placement of works from the city’s contemporary art collection in public educational centers, created by active artists in Barcelona.
The project, which includes the installation and exhibition of artworks in schools and high schools, recognizes educational centers as exhibition spaces and extensions of the museum institution itself. Fora de Reserves unfolds over an entire academic year and is coordinated by the Barcelona Institute of Culture, the Barcelona Education Consortium, and the MACBA. Within this program, during the 2023-2024 school year, three works by artist Mònica Planes were installed in the courtyard of CEIP Ramon Cases, located in the La Marina neighborhood. The Ramon Cases school is very close to El Graner, and due to the uniqueness of Mònica’s sculptures, which are connected to the body, movement, and the concept of children’s playground games, an approach was made to the center, under the invitation of the program, to carry out a dance-based intervention in the educational environment.
After evaluating the project and taking into account the school’s wishes, dancer and choreographer Sònia Gómez was invited to develop an artistic experience in the form of a workshop for the two second-grade groups. This collaboration has allowed El Graner to begin establishing new educational alliances in the La Marina neighborhood, with the aim of fostering other potential connections beyond the Caixa d’Eines program.
